Tesla Model Y Arrives in India: Two Variants, Premium Tech, and Big Ambitions

Tesla has finally landed in India, launching the much-anticipated Tesla Model Y on July 15, 2025. It took years of speculation and government negotiations, but now, Indian buyers get to choose between two variants: the Standard RWD and the Long Range RWD. The Standard version carries a price tag of ₹59.89 lakh ex-showroom, while the Long Range asks for ₹67.89 lakh. This car isn’t cheap, but Tesla is clearly aiming at folks who want premium tech and sustainability bundled into one flashy package.

Let’s be honest, a 500-kilometer range (WLTP) from the Standard Model Y is more than most city drivers would ever need. The Long Range variant stretches that to a whopping 622 kilometers, making long-distance electric road trips around India a real possibility. Both models take off quickly, zipping from zero to 100 km/h in under six seconds—5.9 seconds for the Standard, 5.6 seconds for the Long Range. And with a top speed of 201 km/h, traffic jams might be the only thing slowing you down.

Inside Tech: Big Screens, Loads of Comfort, and Tesla's Signature Simplicity

Step inside the Model Y, and you’ll find Tesla’s massive 15.3-inch touchscreen that puts everything from navigation to entertainment at your fingertips. The front seats are ventilated and heated for extra comfort—something that’s definitely welcome during Indian summers or chilly hill station drives. In back, patrons get an 8-inch display, while rear seats fold down electrically at the push of a button, giving families versatility for luggage or shopping sprees.

The sound system isn’t just background music. Tesla has put in a quality 9-speaker system to keep your Spotify playlists crisp and powerful, whether you’re crawling through city traffic or cruising down highways. And safety? You get advanced driver-assistance systems powered by eight external cameras. Features like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and lane assistance are all packed in to keep you and your family safe on chaotic Indian roads.

Charging anxiety is also something Tesla wants to smash. That’s why they’re rolling out their world-famous Supercharger network, with the first stations going live in Mumbai. These stations are fast and reliable, aiming to remove one of the big hurdles Indian buyers often have with EVs—where do you charge the thing?

The Model Y doesn’t just face other electric SUVs like the BYD Sealion 7; it’s also breathing down the necks of traditional gas-powered competitors like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Toyota Camry. But if you crave cutting-edge tech, green credentials, and the Tesla brand cachet, this is the electric crossover to watch.
