PSG Sweep Aside Inter Milan in Unprecedented Champions League Final

Paris Saint-Germain finally shook off years of European heartbreak by blasting past Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League final. The energy inside Munich's Allianz Arena on May 31, 2025, was electric, but nobody saw this kind of demolition coming, much less in a match where history is usually made with narrow margins.

Right from kickoff, PSG looked sharper, faster, and hungrier. Achraf Hakimi, a familiar face to Inter fans after his stint in Milan, stabbed home the opener just 12 minutes in. Minutes later, all eyes were on 19-year-old Désiré Doué. If anyone didn’t know his name before, they surely do now. Doué doubled PSG’s lead with a calm finish in the 20th minute and then popped up again in the second half (63’) to complete his brace, further crushing Inter's hopes.

The avalanche didn’t stop there. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose movement caused Inter headaches all night, got on the scoresheet in the 73rd minute. PSG’s manager Luis Enrique had the luxury of rotating his bench, and substitute Senny Mayulu repaid the faith by finishing off the rout four minutes from time, a strike that pushed the scoreline to a breathtaking 5-0.

Luis Enrique Joins Elite Managerial Company

With this win, PSG achieved more than a championship. They completed a continental treble, already winners of Ligue 1 and the French Cup earlier this season. For Enrique, it’s a particularly glittering moment. By guiding PSG to a treble, he became only the second manager in football history—after Pep Guardiola—to pull off this feat with two different clubs, having previously done so at Barcelona. That’s the sort of company any manager would kill to keep.

This was PSG’s maiden Champions League trophy, a milestone the club—and especially its Qatari owners—have chased for over a decade. The scale of their triumph is eye-catching for another reason as well: it’s the most lopsided win in Champions League final history. Previous finals have seen tense chess matches and cautious play, but PSG simply bulldozed through Inter’s backline for a record-breaking margin.

Not everyone left Munich overjoyed, though. Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, who came into the tie as a well-drilled side fresh off a dramatic Serie A race, were left stunned. After the final, Inzaghi stepped down from his role following a season that also saw Inter fall short in Italy’s Coppa Italia.

For Indian fans staying up late, the spectacle was well worth the 12:30 AM IST kickoff, with live broadcasts making sure all the drama and fireworks were witnessed across time zones. Now, PSG’s season isn’t over yet. Their triumph secures them a spot in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup showdown with Tottenham Hotspur and a ticket to the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Suddenly, Paris looks very much like the new capital of European football.
